“Hail State” and a cannon blast to signal Junction is open.

Ensuring a great game-day experience for all fans attending sporting events at Mississippi State is a goal of the university and of the designated Game Day Committee. The committee places a special emphasis on enjoyment of the Junction and university picnicking areas.

To signal the Junction is about to open, we will sound and observe the playing of “hail state” from the carillon of the Chapel of Memories. Once the observance is completed and the last notes have sounded, the Junction will be open for gameday activities.

“We know from the correspondence we receive how much fans appreciate these areas and the atmosphere they generate on game day,” said Jim Jones, executive director of facilities and chair of the Game Day Committee. "“We’ve been encouraged by the response, and especially appreciate those who took time to clean up and bag garbage before leaving our first home game.” The university will add additional trash bag receptacles to assist fans with clean-up, he added.

Even though most fans removed personal items, Jones said others failed to take individual supplies such as tents, grills, coolers, and other items. “It’s important to take personal belongings when leaving the area, since we are unable to monitor items left and can’t guarantee they’ll still be there,” he cautions. Those items remaining after a game are considered abandoned.

To ensure a good game day experience, he offers the following tips:

  • Pay attention to signage to determine appropriate boundaries for setting up tents and other tailgating needs.
  • For your safety and for the protection of the area, remember there are no wheeled vehicles allowed in the Junction. (A wheeled vehicle is anything that has to be trailered or towed or operates on its own power).
  • Be aware that no commercial sales are allowed in the Junction.
  • Please take advantage of a third comfort room facility has been added behind the Dorman Hall greenhouses. Dorman and Lloyd-Ricks in the immediate Junction area will be closed during game day.

“These rules are designed to make the game day experience enjoyable for everyone,” he said. “We thank our fans for their continued patronage and support of our university.”
